Over 4,900 candidates file nominations

RDOs will receive appeals against rejection of nomination on July 15 and dispose of them on July 16

As the first phase of the current panchayat elections came to an end on Saturday, as many as 4,961 candidates filed their nominations for the posts of sarpanches and 21,605 for the posts of ward members in 920 panchayats in 39 rural and Agency mandals of the district.

A large number of candidates filed their nominations on the final day, boosting the final number substantially. Though there was hectic activity all over the district, no nomination was received in a few mandals.

Padmanabham and Pendurthy in Visakhapatnam division, Chodavaram and Anakapalle in Anakapalle division, Nakkapalli, Narsipatnam and Nathvaram in Narsipatnam division and Anantagiri, GK Veedhi, Paderu and Pedabayalu in Paderu division had not received a single nomination on Saturday according to data provided in the official press release.

Scrutiny of nominations will be done on Sunday and the RDOs would receive appeals against rejection of nomination on July 15 and dispose them of on July 16.

The following are the total number of nominations received in each Revenue Division (for Sarpanches followed by ward members): Visakhapatnam 620 and 2,741; Anakapalle 1,703, 8,296; Narsipatnam 1,150, 6,595 and Paderu 1,488, 3,973.
