Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has failed to implement the promises on promotion of Telugu language, former member of the Rajya Sabha Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, has said.

Mr. Lakshmi Prasad garlanded the Gandhi statue near the GVMC at Asilametta here on Saturday and paid tributes to the Mahatma.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) election manifesto of 2014 promised to make among other things Telugu/Urdu compulsory from Std. 1 to SSC (10th class), to make Telugu compulsory in official communication to the extent possible, establishment of a Telugu Peetham and to exert pressure on the Centre to recognise Telugu as the second national language. None of these promises has been achieved, he told the media.

On the Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam (Language Day) on August 30, 2015, the Chief Minister announced that measures would be taken to revive the past glory of Telugu language, setting up of a Telugu University at Rajahmahendravaram, making the learning of Telugu compulsory from primary school to Intermediate level but failed to implement any of the promises so far. He said it was a shame that while the Telangana government was giving importance to Telugu and implementing its promises, the AP government was not caring to do the same.
