Special teams formed to nab accused

An 11-year-old girl has been allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver at Gangavaram area under New Port police station limits in the city.

Though the incident happened on Wednesday, it came to light on Thursday after her parents lodged a complaint with the police.

The accused was identified as Ganesh (29), native of Chodavaram and resident of Gajuwaka.

According to New Port Police Station Inspector Nageswara Rao, the girl is a resident of HB Colony area and a class V student.

Ganesh used to ply auto in the vicinity and observed her many times.

On Wednesday night, he noticed that the victim was alone in her house. He went there, took her in his auto to an isolated spot on the Gangavaram road and allegedly raped her.

He again dropped the girl back close to her house late in the night, said police.

When the parents of the girl were searching for her after she went missing, the girl reached home crying and told them about the incident.

Pocso Act case

Her parents lodged a complaint with the police and cases have been registered invoking the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Police formed special teams to arrest him.
