Milk seller jailed for adulteration

The III Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (FAC) A. Moses on Wednesday sentenced a milk hawker D. Venkata Rao to two years rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs.1,000 for selling adulterated milk.

According to the prosecution, the accused was carrying 15 litres buffalo milk on his motorcycle for sale to customers at Aganampudi on November 7, 2006. The then food inspector, B. Hanumantha Rao, inspected the milk and sent samples for analysis and reported that it was adulterated.

The Inspector filed a complaint before the court. On behalf of the prosecution, Assistant Public Prosecutor Mylapalli Adinarayana proved the case beyond reasonable doubt under Section 16 of the Food Adulteration Act.

In another case, V. Ramu was convicted under Section 338 of the IPC and sentenced to one year RI and pay a fine of Rs.1,000 for rash and negligent driving, which caused grievous injury to Appala Naidu whose head and right leg was severely injured at Kanithi junction.
