Many buildings in city prone to fire

Most of the buildings in the city are vulnerable to fire and ill-equipped to fight any untoward incident.

Out of the 4,293 buildings inspected, 650 were vulnerable to fire, and only 14 of them had some fire safety equipment. Only four or five cinema halls in the city had fire safety equipment reflecting the poor state of affairs.

Disclosing details at a meeting with owners of commercial complexes and school managements, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said all private educational institutions and

kalyanamantapams were not at all equipped to fight fire.

Any untoward incident would result in loss of life, he told the participants reminding them of their responsibility.

The Commissioner said preventive measures were getting top priority and two teams were inspecting commercial and non-commercial buildings. All the buildings without fire safety equipment would be given notices. After the given time if it was not complied with seizure would be the only alternative, Mr. Satyanarayana stated.

Regional Fire Safety Officer S.V. Narasimham said at least minimum arrangements should be made to contain fire.
