“Kiran sympathetic to PDF members' demands”

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was sympathetic to several demands put forth by the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF), a forum of independent council members under the leadership of floor leader of AP Legislative Council M.V.S. Sarma during their meeting with the former on Monday.

The PDF members requested him to provide job security to 5.5 lakh contract and out-sourced employees and also equal pay for equal work as per GO no 3. They pointed out that in other states the contract and out-sourced employees were provided job security up to the age of 60. Mr. Sarma revealed that the Chief Minister had assured them that the services of the employees will be continued despite filling certain category of vacancies in the government departments. The Chief Minister also promised to take part in the discussion when the issue comes up for discussion in the Legislative Council.

He said that the Chief Minister promised to study the technicalities of the project and take a decision accordingly in response to his observation that the ‘Sujala Sravanthi' project did not get the due attention it deserved under the Jala Yagnam projects.

The MLC also raised the issue of allotting captive mines to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The Chief Minister replied saying that the government had in principle agreed to the suggestion but was contemplating to link the issue with a private investment to the tune of Rs.45,000 crore.
