As part of the campaign, heart specialist M. Srinivas Rao spoke on the preventive measures and clearing blocks in the heart through the non-surgical method.

A medical awareness programme was organised by the Sea-Shore Walkers' Club at VUDA Park here.

As part of the campaign, heart specialist M. Srinivas Rao spoke on the preventive measures and clearing blocks in the heart through the non-surgical method.

The club promotes education on fitness regime, conducts health camps and tours, covering health-related issues. The programme was about taking care of the heart through EECP (Enhanced External Counter-Pulsation) and by including physical activity, balanced diet, and implementation of better cooking methods with almost no oil, said vice-president of the club V. Rama Rao.

Out of 100 heart complaints received, 98 per cent are due to blockage of the valves and it would take nearly 30 years for a block to manifest, explained Dr. Srinivas Rao. “The majority of the blocks can be cleared through EECP and adhering to a healthy lifestyle that includes heart rejuvenating exercises, yoga and meditation, consuming less oily food, and leading a stress-free life,” he said.

He explained that the heart carries two types of circulation — coronary and collateral.

EECP is a non-surgical treatment that improves collateral circulation and promotes cardiac wellness. By restricting the consumption of oil, red meat, salt, and spices, one can keep the blocks at bay for a long period.

An overdose of oil, fat and spices would lead to high triglycerides and cholesterol levels, which could affect the cardiac health.
