It’s green, orange and yellow all over

The city was abuzz with fire crackers bursting all around where the candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam Party painted the city green, orange and yellow waving their party flags and taking out rallies across the city celebrating their emphatic victory.

Although, for many, the final results were as expected, certain factors like inflation, bifurcation of the State and economic slowdown appear to drive them opt for a change in governance. After the election results are out, the city voters said they look forward to collective leadership that paves way for sustained economic growth.

While many said they were happy with the outcome of the general elections this year, a few expressed their concern. “All we hope is that elected candidates will remember the tall promises made in their manifestoes and be committed to fulfil at least 50 per cent of them. Like other sectors, we expect agriculture sector too to flourish and should not be neglected at any cost,” Nitesh, sales manager visiting the city from Hyderabad, said.

Those who still consider late Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy as their hero had limited choice. “In Madugula Assembly Constituency, the YSRCP candidate does not enjoy good standing in society. That’s the reason why I did not vote for him,” Sahitya, a student said.

First time voter Meenakshi expects development in broader sense. Going by the track record of TDP performance in the past, Venkata Rao, private employee, envisages booming industrial growth.

“The decade-old Congress reign has split our beautiful State into two. Though it still pains me when I think of bifurcation, the new government should keep its focus on enforcing scholarship programmes, bringing down inflation and improving the overall economy,” 62-year-old Anjaneyulu said.

A group of the first time voters said they were more than happy to see the candidates winning whom they have voted for. All that they look forward was a decisive government that takes care of the people and adds value to the country in every possible manner.
