Eisai president Sayoko Sasaki, managing director of Eisai India Sanjit Singh Lamba and Dr. Yoshiyuki Ose visited Yarada village and interacted with lymphatic filariasis (LF) patients on Wednesday.
The village has 52 patients affected by the disease where the Japanese pharma company is carrying out many vector control activities in close coordination with the health department for the mass drug administration (MDA) and with the GVMC to reduce the number of mosquitoes.
Eisai’s management team visited Yarada to understand the difficulties faced by the patients in their day-to-day activities, study the collaboration between Eisai India and the State Health Department and review the sanitation activities carried out by Eisai India in the village.

Based on the feedback taken from the patients, Eisai is taking initiatives to improve access to medicine and other programmes that will benefit the patients and their families.
Special footwear
During the visit, the team distributed specially designed footwear for LF patients as no footwear is available in the market for them due to abnormal foot sizes. It got the special footwear made through a custom manufacturer and the distribution of this footwear was made with the support of the State health department authorities.

Eisai is also supporting farmers at Yarada to improve their crop yield by providing them the required infrastructure and also providing useful inputs through the horticulture department in the making of bio compost.
Eisai president Ms. Sasaki, inaugurated a banana fibre extractor machine at the bio compost preparation farm.
