IIM-V all set to start functioning

Regular classes to commence from Sept. 28

The Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIM-V) will start functioning from September 21.

While registration of students and inauguration will be on September 21, regular classes will commence from September 28.

Confirming this, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said: “Initially, September 14 was considered. But now, it has been fixed on September 21.”

The same has also been updated on the IIM-V official website.

The interiors of Andhra Bank School of Business on Andhra University campus, where the classes will commence, are being done tastefully to match IIM standards and work is on at full pace to give finishing touches.

The own campus of IIM-V will come up on a 300-acre site allotted by the State government at Gambheeram. Till then, it will function from the Andhra Bank School of Business.

As per the floor plan, the ground floor will have two classrooms, a library, a computer room, rooms for faculty, and a fully-connected seminar hall. Two more classrooms will come up on the first floor to accommodate those joining the institution next year in the second phase.

Hostel facility

It is learnt that the hostel for the first batch of students has been arranged close to the Andhra University campus. A mess will also be provided in the hostel.

IIM-Visakhapatnam will be mentored by IIM-Bangalore for the initial years. It is learnt that IIM- Bangalore’s faculty or faculty approved by the mentor institution will teach at the institution in Visakhapatnam during the mentorship period.

Placements

Coming to placements, the website of IIM-V indicates that IIM-Bangalore’s Career Development Services (CDS) Office will oversee placements for the initial years of mentorship.

To begin with, IIM-Visakhapatnam will go with the mentor institute’s flagship two-year programme — PGP (post-graduate programme) in Management.
