‘Huge scope for opportunities in biotech’

Students told to hone their skills to be industry-ready

After IT, biotechnology is another emerging area and there are several opportunities in store for the aspirants as the country is gearing up for the biotech boom.

Experts who assembled at GITAM University at the inaugural of the two-day international conference ‘AP Bio-2017’ on Thursday told the delegates and students to hone their skills to be industry ready.

Organised jointly by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) GITAM Biotech Centre of Excellence, the conference saw a number of delegates from across the country taking part in the event.

Vice-Chairman of APEDB Pharma and Biotech Task Force Lanka Srinivas said that 50% of the research in pharmacy was based on biotechnology. He added that the country will play a key role in the field in the coming years.

Former Director General of Indian Council for Medical Research N.K. Ganguly said that there was a need to develop expertise to meet the growing demand in biotechnology.

Professor in Department of Radiation Oncology and Radiology of the Stanford University School of Medicine, USA Sanjay Malhotra said Andhra Pradesh comprised rich resources and there was a need to capitalise the available resources to transform the State into an economic zone.
