Several artisans from West Bengal are at work round-the-clock on a 100-foot tall eco-friendly Ganesha near the A.S. Raja College grounds in MVP Colony here to claim an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The organisers of the event are also setting their eyes on yet another world record – by installing a 2,500 kg laddu at the pandal.
The idol, which will be made of dry grass, mud, water colours, and holy water brought from the Ganga, will have a height of 90 feet plus and the organisers say the height will cross 100 feet once the crown is adorned.

The 21-day event is conducted under the aegis of Sri Sampath Vinayaka Visakha Youth Association. This time, this is organised in the heart of city after conducting it successfully on the exhibition grounds and Lankavaru grounds at Gajuwaka during past two years.
Seventy-two artisans are now working on the main structure and the umbrella. They have been set a deadline to get the idol ready in 60 days.
The laddu named Suvarna laddu will weigh 2,500 kg. It will cost Rs.5.5 lakh and it is sponsored by Suvarnabhoomi Real Estates. It will have a height of nine-foot. The tallest laddu in the world is said to have been made at ‘Ganeshpuram' programme in the United Kingdom.

The laddu will be served as prasadam among the devotees after the 21-day festival. Srinivas Babu of Tapeswaram in East Godavari is preparing the giant laddu. “Our main objective is to create awareness on eco-friendly Ganesha and discourage people from using chemicals and Plaster of Paris though we are spending Rs.35 lakh to Rs.40 lakh by mobilising the amount through contributions,” says Tummuluru Jagadeeswar Reddy, founder-chairman of Sri Sampath Visakha Youth Association.
The immersion will be done at the pandal itself after completion of 21 days by splashing water, milk, honey, ghee, curds and turmeric paste.
