Homoeopathy pills to check spread of dengue

Preventive medicine being distributed free of cost

In an attempt to check the rampant spread of dengue fever in the district, the administration is distributing preventive homoeopathy medicine free of cost, Collector Pravin Kumar has said.

Launching a ‘Mukhyamantri Arogya Kendram’, under the auspices of Ayush, at China Waltair here on Monday, he distributed the medicine to beneficiaries and appealed to all to make use of the scheme.

Not for pregnant women

The government has initiated various measures to control the spread of viral fevers which are spreading due to the change in climate.

Several programmes are being implemented to check the proliferation of mosquitoes in the rural and urban areas, apart from in the limits of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits, he said.

“The homoeopathy medicine is being distributed across the district. It can be taken by anyone except for pregnant women and children below one year of age. The drug should be taken for three days with the dosage of five pills for an adult and three for children between one and five years of age,” Mr. Pravin Kumar said.

The drug would be made available at all the 72 wards in the GVMC, 24 Mukhyamantri Arogya Kendrams, 24 Rythu Bazaars, railway stations, bus stations, schools, colleges, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), he added.

Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan, Deputy Director of State Medical and Health Department Aruna Kumari, Ayush Joint Director Shekar, District Medical and Health Officer S. Tirupati Rao and GVMC Chief Medical Officer Hemanth Kumar were present.

Show-cause notice

The Collector also mentioned that some private hospitals were fleecing patients by creating a scare among them in the name of dengue.

Mr. Pravin Kumar advised the patients to approach government hospitals if they suspect any symptom for dengue.

“The facilities for confirmation tests for dengue, chikungunya and malaria are available only at King George Hospital (KGH). Private doctors are not authorised to declare a patient as dengue positive unless it is confirmed by the Virology Lab at KGH. Show-cause notice were issued to some hospitals,” he said, adding that there was no cause for alarm.
