When people, especially the youth, despise the corrupt persons can we really stem corruption in society, says former IPS officer N. Dilip Kumar.

Having fought corruption and corrupt practices during his three decades of policing in the Union Territories, the police officer from Vizianagaram believes the main reason for corruption to thrive is the unfortunate attitude of tolerance for it among the general public.

“Unfortunately we tend to place officers and public representatives on a pedestal even after being aware of their being corrupt. We need to inculcate a feeling of scorn for the corrupt, which would make the corrupt person hang his head in shame,” he told

An IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and other UTs cadre, he took on the challenge of fighting the corrupt by a thoroughly worked sting operation in New Delhi. His thorough preparation helped bring to conviction a number of high profile officers in New Delhi. Drawing from his experience in New Delhi he has written a book ‘Bakasur – the Jumbo Criminal’. The book is a novel like narrative where the corrupt are equated with mythological character ‘Bakasur’ who is known for his insatiable appetite.

The book is being translated into all Indian languages and the Telugu translation will be available soon, he says.

He plans to mobilise public opinion against corruption and the corrupt in the city where he studied MSc nuclear physics. He wishes to create a movement with like-minded people to inculcate the values against corruption among the youth. He can be reached on 9958870944.
