Though the city is still to receive its full-time Police Commissioner, the lobbying for plum posts has already begun in the department. And the lobbying is totally based on caste lines. It is not confined to the city; it is at feverish pitch across the three coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.
In the three districts there are about 100 officers in the circle inspector rank, and Visakhapatnam city alone has about 60 officers. The dominant castes in the force are Kapus and Velamas and fortunately for them two of the Ministers from the coastal districts in the AP cabinet hail for these two castes.
According to sources the key posting areas in the city limits that are being eyed by the officers are Elamanchili, Chodavaram, Anakapalli, Parwada, Pendurthi, Gajuwaka, Madhurwada, Anandapuram, Three Town and Four Town. And the officers who formed a lobby based on caste lines are seeking the intervention of the Ministers.

Reliable sources in the department informed
In the whole exercise, senior IPS officers have very little role to play and are silent spectators. They are reduced to allot postings in areas such as GK Veedhi, Chintapalli, G. Madugula and Koyyuru, which are Maoist hotbeds, and are in least demand.
The government is yet to decide, whether, the city will remain a commissionerate or be upgraded with the posting of an Additional Director General of Police rank officer. But the lobbying is gaining momentum, as the deadline for posting is July 11.
