‘Hard work of officials brought laurels to city’

Chamber felicitates officials for their role in getting awards

Top officials working in the city were felicitated here at the AGM of Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their role in getting awards to Visakhapatnam as the third cleanest city, topmost cleanest railway station and second cleanest major port.

MP and BJP State president K. Haribabu, Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, Collector Pravin Kumar, GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan and Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur attended the meeting.

Mr. Haribabu lauded the efforts of the officers whose positive attitude and hard work brought so many laurels to the city.

He called upon citizens to opt for solar power on their rooftops so as to turn Vizag into a solar city.

Mr. Krishna Babu, dedicated the award the port received from the Ministry of Shipping as the second cleanest port to the workforce, users and other stakeholders. He gave a brief report on the activities of the port as well as the steps being taken to further improve air quality and dust pollution.

In addition to adopting the best available environmental management practices, the VPT was also investing in equipment to monitor air ambient quality on hourly basis as well as going green with commissioning of solar power plant.

Mr. Krishna Babu assured the public that these would bear fruit in the months ahead and Vizag Port would soon become a world-class port by following the best practices in all respects.

Mr. Pravin Kumar thanked the VCCI for its initiative to recognise the work of the administration each year, to give momentum to do better.

Mr. Hari Narayanan said with the support of Vizagites, GVMC bagged the third cleanest city award.

Mr. Mathur was thankful to all the workers and staff who toiled very hard to keep the railway station clean. It was a very daunting task, he said as lakhs of people used the railway station everyday. VCCI president A.V. Monish Row described about the activities of the chamber and explained about their plans for making the city more clean and citizen-friendly.

Representatives from the civil society and residents’ welfare associations attended.
