With fine weaving of cotton and silk fabrics, one can get exclusive cotton and silk saris, dress materials and other handloom products at the Special Handloom Expo 2012 which began at Turner’s Choultry in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The expo welcomes one with a collection of saris such as Srikalahasti Jamdani silk, Uppada silk, Venkatagiri cotton, Chittoor, pure silk from Peddapuram, Chettinadu silk, vibrant hues of Gadwal and multi-coloured Mangalgiri saris. It has a wide range of cotton dress materials from Pochampalli, Mangalgiri, Chirala, Nalgonda and other prominent places.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Visakha South MLA Dronamraju Srinivas said that the expo contains a whole range of handloom products where one can purchase at the manufacturer’s price. Purchasing here enables the artisan to earn his livelihood and also the tradition of weaving will be protected,” he said. There are around 54 stalls of weavers’ cooperative societies from 15 districts across the State exhibiting their products. Assistant director of handlooms and textiles, Vizianagaram M. Sri Ramesh, assistant director of handlooms and textiles M. Joga Rao, executive director of Turner’s Choultry K. Tulsi Rao and former corporator P. Jyothi were present.

The expo is open till July 19 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
