GVMC bags two JNNURM awards

The awards comprise mementos, citations, and Rs.4.5 lakh in cash

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday presented two awards to the GVMC at the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission Incentive Awards presentation at Vigyan Bhavan at New Delhi.

The GVMC has been selected as ‘Best city for implementation of BSUP for 2012-13’, which it shared with Ahmedabad, and ‘Best city in effective enforcement of three pro-poor reforms’.

The awards, comprising mementos, citations, and Rs.4.5 lakh in cash, were received by Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and GVMC Special Officer S.K. Joshi.

Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Samir Sharma, GVMC Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana, APUFIDC Managing Director Y. Madhusudhan Reddy, and GVMC Chief Engineer B. Jayrami Reddy were present. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Girija Vyas presided over the function.

Annual event

The annual awards are presented by selecting cities that performed well among the 63 mission cities.

Under JNNURM, the GVMC has taken up construction of 14,203 housing units for the poor, completed 14,139, and handed over 12,348 units to the beneficiaries.
