Girijan front opposes bauxite mining

October 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Girijan Aikya Vedika district committee opposes bauxite mining in the Agency area.

The Vedika demands that government annul all agreements relating to bauxite mining and conserve the natural beauty and diversity of the agency area. It plans to highlight the issue at a three-day meeting to be held to mark the 75{+t}{+h}death anniversary of Girijan revolutionary Komaram Bhim in Hyderabad from Oct. 25.

The Vedika expressed the apprehension that if the government goes ahead with the mining the agency area would turn into a desert affecting its rich biodiversity and depriving Girijans of drinking water.

The growing of internationally famed Araku coffee would come to an end if mining was taken up, Vedika leaders said in a statement.
