A group of eight children of Papa Home, who have been trained by Destiny Breakers Crew in Hip Hop style of dancing, showcased their expertise and drew the attention of the passers-by on the Beach Road on Sunday.
Cake cut
It was a special day for members of Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Mandal as the exhibition ‘The Fair’ concluded on a friendly note at AMCOSA Hall on Sunday. The women of the community not only helped the flood victims of Uttarakhand through the proceeds of the two-day fair but also celebrated Friendship Day at the venue. Members of the mandal came together to cut the cake and sang ‘yeh dosti hum nahi todenge’ from the film ‘Sholay’ in chorus. Later, they wished the visitors and shared the cake to mark the celebrations.

Adding zest to the celebrations, 1980-1981 batch of St. Anthony’s High School joined hands to celebrate Friendship Day in a different way. The alumni along with others decided to contribute Rs.26,000 per month for a year to help the school management pay teacher salaries. With this initiative, the old students want to redress staff shortage in the school. Further, K. Nageswar Rao and M. Srinivas Ram Kumar contributed Rs.60,000 and D. Prasad gave away Rs.12,000. The students also felicitated former headmaster K. Jojibabu and present headmaster Prasada Rao along with Headmaster of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan Mariyadas.

Members of Achuta Rama Rao and Friends Association of Murali Nagar brought smile to the poor and the needy by distributing sweets, towels, soaps and toilet kits. They gave away 25 kits to the disadvantaged children of Ananda Marga Children Home at Old Dairy Farm, 130 kits to old people and children at Prema Samajam. Divisional Engineer (Panchayat Raj Department) Amadalavalasa C. Achuta Rama Rao, members of the association Usha Rani and Yessawi, Trilokesa Anand and Soumya Anand of Anand Marga and secretary of Prema Samajam Ganapathi attended the programme. A group of 15 volunteers of Young India Fraternity, an NGO with students from various engineering and degree colleges, celebrated the day with the orphans at Child Foundation of India, Sheela Nagar. The celebrations included moral education class, games, screening of a film and distribution of clothes, blankets and stationery to 40 children under 13 years of age. Prizes were given away to children who rejoiced every moment thoroughly.
