The long awaited five-year LLB course finally commenced at the Andhra University Dr B R Ambedkar College of Law. The course was officially declared launched by University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju here on Tuesday.
The Andhra University had been planning to offer the five-year course since the Bar Council of India had proposed it and had done the homework but somehow it could not take off.
The initiative of the faculty of College of Law, led by its Principal A. Subrahmanyam, finally bore fruit and the course has become a reality and the college could offer it from the academic year 2013-14, the Vice-Chancellor said addressing freshers and their parents and other students of Law College and members of faculty of Law and other departments.

Law has become a multidisciplinary course and the students need to be grounded in a number of subjects, former chairman of Bar Council of India D.V. Subba Rao said. He urged the students not to be limited to what is taught in the classes but to get exposed to the emerging fields of study.
Law is based on sound logic and reasoning and a law practitioner is a student all her life, Special District and Sessions Judge CBI Court Anupama Chakravarthy said.
Principal College of Law A. Subrahmanyam presided over the function and explained the course to the students and their parents.

A large number of students, research scholars, members of Bar Council and members of the Bar Association and other dignitaries were present.
