Farmers who occupied part of the land that is allotted to the Indian Institute of Management at Gambheeram in Visakhapatnam have agreed to a survey by the Revenue Department. The decision was reached following the talks 19 farmers had with Collector N. Yuvaraj at the Collectorate on Saturday.
The Collector said justice could be done to them only after the extent of land they were cultivating was decided.
He explained to them that some problems would crop up since their farming activity on the land was not recorded with the Revenue department.

Meanwhile, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the Government out to help out the farmers though there were no guidelines to pay compensation to the farmers who occupied Government land for cultivation. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the Road Transport Authority’s driving test track at Gambheearm village would be taken over for construction of IIM since the management institute was a prestigious one. Another site would be allotted for the test driving track and compensation would be paid to the RTA, he added.
However, Mr. Srinivasa Rao denied that he had issued a statement three days ago that farmers had agreed to hand over the land for establishing the IIM.

Foundation on Jan. 17
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union Minister for HRD Smriti Irani and Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu, would lay the foundation for the IIM on January 17.
Later, Ms. Irani would address a summit on the future of education in Visakhapatnam at the Port’s Kalavani auditorium.
