Research is the backbone of the development of academics and the institution, it is imperative that the young faculty focus on research in the emerging fields of study in their respective disciplines, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju said.
The University has earned a reputation across the world due to the research done by eminent academics who established departments like Nuclear Science, which were first in the state and in the country, the Vice-Chancellor told teachers of the College of Science and Technology at a meeting at the TLN Sabha Hall in the University here on Thursday.
Calling upon the young faculty to apply for minor and major research projects with central and state funding agencies, he assured them that the University would encourage them to improve their academic and research qualities and strengthen the university research output. He advised the faculty members to include maintenance costs, infrastructure and other services while applying for the projects as many funding agencies are prepared to sanction funds for the projects.

The academic calendar for Postgraduate courses for the year 2014-15 was approved at another meeting on Thursday.
Classes for the academic year 2014-15 begin July 1 and Dasara holidays will be during October 1 to 5. Semester-end examinations will start from November 3. The Second and Fourth semesters will begin November 17. Christmas and Pongal holidays will be from December 24, 2014 to January 18, 2015.

The class work for Second and Fourth semesters will end on April 10, 2015 and examinations begin April 15.
