Ex-legislators’ forum bats for Assembly winter session in city

They seek bar on criminals from contesting elections

The AP Former Legislators Forum, which met here on Monday under the auspices of Dr. S.A. Rahman, sought stepsto hold winter session of the Assembly and the Council in Visakhapatnam on the lines of Maharashtra and some other States.

Founder president of the forum K. Subba Raju said the forum was established to undertake welfare activities apart from extending support to the government welfare schemes.

The government should take measures to ensure proper conduct of the Assembly and Council proceedings.

Former MLA Reddy Satyanarayana recalled that former MLAs were given house sites during the tenure of former Chief Minister N. Janardhan Reddy and the same should be extended now.

The participants sought that the outdated election system, which was coming in the way of ordinary people from contesting elections, should be discarded and proportionate system should be introduced.

They also underlined the need to amend the laws to make candidates with a criminal background, big industrialists and corporate representatives from contesting elections.

The former legislators also sought pension, medical allowance and various concessions to former legislators as was being done in some States.

They appealed to members to make the AP Former Legislators Forum meet to be held in Vijayawada next month a success.

P.V. Chalapathi Rao, Manam Anjaneyulu, Allu Bhanumathi and Rajana Ramani were among those who attended the meeting.
