Eight killed in road accidents

Eight persons – four each in Guntur and Visakhapatnam districts – were killed in separate road accidents on Tuesday.

In the accident in Guntur district, four persons were killed and six others injured when a seven-seater autorickshaw rammed a truck while trying to avoid collision with a bus at Santhinagar near Nakerikallu mandal in Narsaraopet division in the evening. The passengers were going towards Rupenaguntla.

Among the dead were Harish (4) and a couple, Velpula Koti Veeraiah and Anjamma. The injured were shifted to the Government Hospital at Narsaraopet. Four persons, including a couple, were killed and four others seriously injured when a cement bags-laden lorry on which they were travelling was involved in an accident with a trailer carrying trucks, on the National Highway near P.L. Puram in Visakhapatnam district in the early hours of the day.

According to the Payakaraopeta police, the victims were part of a group of 14 returning to their native villages Krishnasastrypeta, Modugullpeta and Maddurupeta in Santakaviti mandal of Srikauklam district, after attending a festival at Bhimadole in West Godavari district.

At about10 p.m., the group boarded the lorry bound for Bhubaneswar. At P.L. Peta, the trailer had reportedly entered the highway in the wrong direction and came in the way of the lorry, leading to the accident. Pogiri Ramu (40) died on the spot while her husband Pogiri Ramana and mother Dooba Gairamma succumbed to injuries while being treated at Tuni’s Area Hospital.

P. Suresh (26) died at a hospital in Visakhapatnam.
