EAMCET registers over 93 per cent attendance

A few candidates lose one year for reaching the examination centres late. The engineering test was conducted in 36 centres and the agriculture and medicine test in 13 centres, Regional Coordinator K. Venkata Subbaiah informed.

The Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET)-2014 was conducted in the Visakhapatnam region in a smooth manner on Thursday.

For the engineering test conducted in the morning, out of 18,976 registered students, 17,808 (93.84 per cent) attended. For the test conducted in the afternoon for agriculture and medicine stream, the attendance was 93.37 per cent with 5,956 out of 6,379 registered candidates attending.

When contacted, some students who appeared for the engineering examination said the test was neither tough nor easy. As was the experience in the past, physics paper was tough for many.

Candidates, along with their parents or escorts, reached the examination centres well before the commencement of the examinations. As the candidates went inside after a thorough check, the parents and escorts waited outside under scorching sun.

A few candidates missed the examination because they reached the examination centres late.

Gates of the examination centres were closed at exactly 10 a.m. for the morning session and 2.30 p.m. for the afternoon session.

Police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 at the examination centres and installed mobile phone jammers. Candidates were barred from entering the examination halls with mobile phones and other electronic equipment.

These precautions were taken to prevent unfair practices using high-tech gadgets. The enforcement wing also kept an eye on the examination centres.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju went round some centres on the university campus.
