Due process being followed in land allocation, says Collector

May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

In an effort to put to rest the speculation regarding land allocations for different projects in the city and district, District Collector N. Yuvaraj said that there was 39,000 acres of Government land available for alienation for different projects and due process was being followed in all the cases.

The District administration has been working hard to identify Government lands and create a clear inventory of it. All efforts are being made to protect the Government lands and immediate action is being taken against encroachers, he said addressing media here on Thursday. Talking of the magnitude of the problem of encroachers, he noted a recent case where someone tried to occupy the vacant land adjacent to the Joint Collector’s Bungalow. Cognisance is being taken of complaints by citizens and reports in the media, he said. With an aim to bring in transparency in land records, the administration had proposed to put up all its records in the public domain. The Government has accepted and soon the Government records of details of land holding would be available on the Internet, he said.

This would definitely bring down corruption to a large extent, he felt.

The Government is considering a proposal by the Indian Institute of Management (Calcutta) on affordable housing under which employees would have five to 10 per cent of their salaries deducted directly and paid towards the EMI and within a few years the home would be their own. Referring to identification of land for projects the district administration is first offering options and once the officials concerned with the project identify and accept the location the process is being started , he explained.
