Down the memory lane of The Hindu MetroPlus

Many readers who had fallen in love with the ‘Metro Plus’ were reminiscent of the 10 year journey the metro had made with the readers by reflecting the spirit and soul of the ‘City of Destiny’.

Leading citizens of the city, top executives of corporate houses and readers participated in the 10 anniversary celebrations of ‘Metro Plus’ a life style weekly supplement of the 133-year-old English daily The Hindu at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel here on Friday.

Many readers who had fallen in love with the ‘Metro Plus’ were reminiscent of the 10 year journey the metro had made with the readers by reflecting the spirit and soul of the ‘City of Destiny’. The men who mattered in the city were of the view that the metro had grown with the cosmopolitan city and its varied cultures.

Colourful event

It had vividly captured the city’s metamorphosis in its articles, with eye-catching columns like the Vizagnettes which gave a glimpse of Vintage Vizag, City Buzz which talks of the latest happenings and market trends and Lens View which captures the various moods of the city, it had all its readers hooked and kept them asking for more.

Metro Plus captured the visits of eminent personalities including film and sports personalities such as Syed Kirmani, P.T.Usha, Irfan Pathan, Sitar Maestro Shujaat Khan and others. Senior Associate Editor Mukund Padmanabhan who was instrumental in the launch of ‘Metro Plus’ in 13 centres said that the ‘Metro Plus’ stole the hearts of the Vizagites. Former Rector of Andhra University A. Prasanna Kumar said that Metro Plus is off the beaten track. It lightens up the heaviness that one gets by reading the daily newspaper with all the crime news and the depressing economic issues. It aptly captured the culture of time and the mood of the people.

The colourful event was marked by enthralling music by musical band which took the participants down the memory lane of Late Rajesh Khanna’s super hits of the yester years. The celebration’s event manager was Estique and Beverage partner Bacardi while the hospitality was provided by the Four Points.
