March 21, 2014 09:15 pm | Updated July 24, 2016 03:41 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Bhushanam, a teacher in NAD Aided Primary School, is spreading awareness among motorists at busy junctions.

With accidents claiming precious lives all because of negligence and throwing caution to the wind, awareness and a constant reminder on what is to be done is the need of the hour.

For instance, a simple campaign at a traffic junction by a common man, urging motorists to wear helmet or a seat belt will be a reminder to many.

That’s what I. Bhushanam, a teacher in NAD Aided Primary School, is doing.

Since the traffic safety week began on January 24, he has been doing it at various busy junctions. He carries a board displaying ‘Speed thrills but kills’ and ‘Wear a seat belt and helmet’ as part of his drive.

“I have done it at several junctions, including NAD, DEO Office, HSBC, Jagadamba, KGH, SP’s Office, Collectorate, and Satyam. Every day, after the school hours, I go out and undertake the campaign,” he says.

He particularly targets youths who go on latest fast bikes without helmet. He shows the sign of wearing the seat-belt to those driving cars.

Mr. Bhushanam has been taking part in service activities right from his student days. Since 2009, he has taken up the task of planting saplings too.
