Curbs on movement of heavy vehicles

Decision taken to check accidents and traffic jam, says Police Commissioner. Vehicles transporting building material would be allowed into the city between 12 noon and 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. with prior police permission.

A ban has been imposed on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. with effect from Thursday (April 24).

The steep increase in the number of heavy vehicles, goods vehicles and private passenger vehicles is leading to accidents and traffic jams in the city. The traffic curbs have been imposed to check them, according to Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy.

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed during the above timings on the National Highway stretch between Rajapulova junction and Lankelapalem junction, which are in the city limits and all roads leading into the city from the State Highway between Anandapuram and Pinagadi junction.

The restrictions will, however, not be applicable to the following roads: Lankelapalem – Parawada Pharma City road, Sri Nagar junction – Auto Nagar road, BHPV signal junction – Auto Nagar Road, Sheela Nagar – Port Connectivity Road, Industrial Estate Road near Kancharapalem Police Station, Rajapulova – Salapuvanipalem (via NH) and Anandapuram – Pinagadi junction (State Highway 38). Mini vans and goods autos (below 5 tonnes) would be allowed for loading and unloading operations from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. The movement of heavy goods vehicles on the Siripuram and Old Post Office has been totally banned between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Vehicles transporting building material would be allowed into the city between 12 noon and 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. with prior police permission. Vehicles carrying essential commodities like medicines, milk, vegetables and fruits would be allowed at all times but they should also obtain prior police permission giving the vehicle number and route.

Vehicles carrying petroleum products and gas would be allowed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. with prior permission and loading and unloading operations any of the city roads is prohibited.

Action warned

The police official has appealed to the heavy vehicle users to comply with the rules failing which action will be initiated against them in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
