‘Crime has come down’

Incidence of crime has come down slightly during this year compared to last year, Superintendent of Police K. Praveen said here on Saturday.

Out of the 5,803 cases registered under various heads of crime during 2014, more than a thousand related to the three elections held during the year when enforcement was more resulting in more number of cases being registered, Dr. Praveen said. This year’s figure was thus less than last year’s 5,415, he added.

The two cases of murder for gain were solved. There was a huge increase in the cases booked under NDPS Act because a major drive had been launched against ganja cultivation and smuggling. So also cases under the Excise Act, MV Act and against illegal quarrying of sand.

Additional SP (administration) D.N. Kishore, Additional SP (crime) N.J. Rajakumar and Deputy SPs R. Srinivas, N. Sudhakar and S. Bhushan Naidu were present.

Due to concentration given to highways, the number of accidents had come down. Measures were also being planned for all areas. Introducing breath analysers on the Araku-Paderu route in the Agency had resulted in drop in number of accidents. Since Lambasingi was fast gaining prominence as a tourist destination due to its low temperatures a check would be kept on tourists between Narsipatnam and Downuru so that drunken driving was avoided on the ghat road, Dr. Praveen said. He also explained the community policing programmes, Sadbhavana Yatras, volleyball tournaments, etc. conducted by the police in Agency area.
