Veteran cinematographer M.V. Raghu is all set to launch a school of cinematography in Visakhapatnam. Announcing this on Sunday, cinematographer of 75 films, including a few award-winning ones such as Swathi Mutyam , Siri Vennela , Sitara , Anweshana , Mr. Raghu said that cinema was not just about glam.
“It is a special craft that involves quite a bit of science. And to dish out a good film, there is a requirement of well-trained craftsmen, be it a cinematographer, camera technician, light man or spot boy,” said the recipient of the A. P. State Nandi Award and Filmfare (Telugu) award.
“Every individual has a share in the making of a film. At present, there is a huge shortage of qualified technicians, especially after bifurcation of the State. And to fill the gap, we intend to launch a school,” he said.

To start with, the cinematographer will be offering a one-year course in cinematography, a three-month course for camera technician, and a one-month fast-track course in film-making.
The institute is slated for launch on October 3, and courses such as editing, sound technician, and digital imaging technician will follow. Mr. Raghu informed that talks were on with a few accredited institutes for validation of the certificates.
Film director and trainer L. Satyanand pointed out that learning from experienced teachers would play an important role, and Mr. Raghu fitted the bill.
