CGHS likely to come up near hospital for mental health

More than a year after Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda announced that a CGHS would be set up in the city the proposal got traction from the State Government after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit ordered the administration to complete the process.

The facility is likely to come up near the Government Hospital for Mental Health. BJP delegation met the Chief Minister, during his recent visit to the City, and sought his intervention to get the facility established in the city thereby addressing the long pending demand of over 1.2 lakh beneficiaries, including serving and retired Central Government employees and their families, BJP city president M Nagender told The Hindu .

In a letter addressed to then Principal Secretary Health the Union Additional Health Secretary and Director General of CGHS had written that around 3,500 sft of space and adequate waiting space are required for the proposed CGHS Wellness Centre. Yet it took more than a year for the administration to show the Union Health Ministry an appropriate location.

The Hindu that though there were 50 Central government offices and establishments, none had come forward to offer space. The State government too had not shown interest in offering adequate space and worse it was being offered for only one year. Representatives of unions and associations of the Central government employees have expressed dismay at the delay in identification of a suitable location by officials.
