Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Killi Kruparani on Monday said the long-awaited proposal to develop IT Investment Region (ITIR) in Hyderabad would be cleared by the Union Government ‘very soon.’
Announcing this at a daylong workshop on ‘Growth of IT in Visakhapatnam region’ organised by Software Technology Parks of India, she said apart from Hyderabad the Centre was also contemplating setting up ITIR in Visakhapatnam recognising its strategic location and potential to grow as a big destination for IT investments.
ITIR project at Hyderabad, which is hanging fire for several years, envisaged creating world-class infrastructure around Madhapur, Uppal and Shamshabad in an area of 50,000 acres. Special incentives would be offered to those investing in ITIR.

The Minister said the Centre would set up 10 more software technology parks and as many as 210 electronic manufacturing clusters – of which two would be located in Hyderabad, one each at Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam. Stating that there was not much progress in investment in electronics, she said the government would offer 50 per cent subsidy to those investing in the clusters. Ms. Kruparani said UPA-II Government was keen on achieving robust e-governance and was setting up a data centre in each State capital, including Hyderabad.
