BJP MLC P.V.N. Madhav addressing the media, in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Taking exception to the criticism made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that the Centre was not extending immediate relief to the cyclone-hit Srikakulam district, BJP MLC P.V.N. Madhav said that the NDA government would send teams, assess the damage and extend relief liberally.

Referring to the relief works undertaken in the affected areas, he said,“The inter-State Talcher high tension line was restored in 24 hours by the Power Grid Corporation of India and the Rajam-Palasa HT line would be restored by Monday. Because of the works on the high tension lines, the CM was able to assure people that power would be restored by Sunday.”

The NDRF teams rushed to the spots within 24 hours and were still working, he told the media.

BJP team led by Floor leader P. Vishnu Kumar Raju had toured the cyclone-hit areas and party State president Kanna Lakshminarayana was in the area on Dasara, he said.

A team of Central Horticulture Board would visit on October 24 to assess damage and suggest restoration works.

The MLC further said that the interim relief would be announced, along with Odisha where three districts were badly hit. A detailed report was sent to the Centre and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, he said.

“The Chief Minister is using a natural disaster for political mileage. Cases were foisted against those seeking relief,” Mr. Madhav alleged.
