CDIA signs MoU with GVMC

Cities Development Initiatives for Asia (CDIA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the GVMC on pre-feasibility studies for revised city development plan (CDP).

The revised CDP has been given priority in view of the GVMC sending proposals for JNNURM Plus, the second phase of the urban mission.

The MoU was entered into by CDIA South Asia Coordinator Paul Schuttenbelt and Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu at a “crucial meeting” here on Wednesday and the terms of reference finalised. CDIA Senior Programme Manager Balakrishnan Elangovan was present.

The ToR agreed upon included key areas such as appointment of national and international consultants, institutional and capacity building and a contribution of financial cost of Rs.1 crore towards the project cost.

According to an official release, GVMC has to contribute 20 per cent in kind by providing office infrastructure and transportation to the consultants during the six-month project period beginning April 2012.

The other areas of PFS include water supply, distribution, and slum improvement project.

Mr. Schuttenbelt assured technical support on water supply and distribution in the second phase as agreed in the ToR.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu described water supply and distribution as a priority sector and said seven projects costing Rs.700 crore had been taken up to meet the demand as well as for 24X7 supply. He also sought technical support to reduce the current wastage that stood at nearly 35 per cent.
