Environment protection groups and people's organisations observed candlelight vigil near the Gandhi statue in front of the GVMC main office here on Saturday evening in respect of the victims of blasts in the Fukushima atomic reactor in Japan on March 11 last year.

The participants regretted that in spite of several accidents to atomic and nuclear power plants and installations all over the world and even advanced countries struggling to contain the damage due to such incidents, Central government and States were keen to establish nuclear power plants and mining of uranium.

Movement for People-Centred Development distributed stickers on the damage done due to Fukushima blasts and many college students collected them.
