Lashing out at the Telugu Desam Government for taking steps for mining of bauxite in the Agency areas despite the stiff opposition from the Girijans, Left parties decided to work together to protect the rights of the tribals.
At a meeting of the Left parties held here on Friday under the chairmanship of Govindrajulu of SUCI (C ), CPI State assistant secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy, CPI district secretary AJ Stalin, CPI (M) district secretary K Lokanatham, city secretary B Ganga Rao, CPI district council members M Pydiraju and others decided to work in coordination and draw up a joint plan of action for a people’s movement against the exploitation of natural resources in ecologically sensitive areas.
They decided to organise sustained people’s struggles to safeguard the rights of the tribals and highlight the problem posed by the proposed bauxite mining in Agency area.

They condemned the Telugu Desam Government for supporting the exploitative corporations by taking steps to start bauxite mining in the Agency area without taking into consideration the impact on the lives of the tribals living in the region.
The State Government has been trying to mobilise opinion of the tribals in favour of bauxite mining and has hired a few tribals for the purpose. The Maoists have been trying to regain their strength in the area by using the bauxite mining issue.
