Reservations should be given based on economic backwardness irrespective of castes, Minister for Roads and Buildings Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu said here on Saturday.
Speaking at the inaugural of AP Brahmin Cooperative Credit Society at Akkayyapalem, he said irrespective of caste, those financially backward should get the benefits of reservation.
Stating that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu kept his word on constitution of separate corporation for welfare of Brahmins after promising it during his padayatra before the general elections held in 2014, he said of ₹500 crore sanctioned to the corporation, ₹200 crore had been released for benefit of 50,000 people.

Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu said they would take steps to release the remaining amount shortly and called for extending the benefits to the people at the grassroots by undertaking massive propaganda on various schemes offered to them for their uplift.
He suggested appointment of coordinators at mandal level for effective implementation of various schemes.
AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation Chairman Vemuri Ananda Surya said Brahmins were indebted to Mr. Naidu for launching several welfare programmes with allocation of ₹500 crore. He said the previous governments had neglected the genuine demands of the community.

Visakha North MLA and BJP leader P. Vishnu Kumar Raju promised to take up just demands of Brahmins to the notice of the authorities.
Corporation CEO Aakella Suryanarayana Murthy, director Bhanu Murthy, members S.S. Sastry and Ch. Swarajyalakshmi were present.
