On the occasion of ‘World Cancer Day 2014’, The Hindu along with Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (MGCH & RI) is jointly organising a health awareness talk here on Tuesday.
Keeping the risk factors and high incidence of cancer in view, the organisers are taking up the awareness among the employees of the Police Department this year. The session will throw light on the impact of early detection and effective measures to be taken to prevent cancer.
According to surgical oncologist and managing director of MGCH and RI V. Murali Krishna, primary goal of the combined initiative is to bring down the death rate caused due to cancer.

This is possible by attracting maximum attention towards early detection of the epidemic.
He said: “Being aware of the risk factors, inculcating healthy lifestyle and identifying early signs play a role in controlling the disease. One should also get their regular screening tests done to keep a check on the existence of deadly cells.”
Involving a team of doctors and participants, the campaign will also feature panel discussion and interactive session. City Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy is expected to participate as chief guest at the programme scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Police Barracks Auditorium.
