The iconic college of the city, which counts among its illustrious alumni Nobel Prize winner Sir C.V. Raman, revolutionary leader of the Rampa tribal uprising Alluri Sitarama Raju, freedom fighter Tenneti Viswanadham, thespian S.V. Ranga Rao and Bar Council of India former chairman D.V. Subba Rao, Mrs. AVN College is looking to re-establish itself as the premier educational institution of the city.
“It is not just a hoary history. We have highly qualified and committed faculty. There are 35 Ph.Ds in our faculty, probably no other college in the State has that number,” college correspondent A.V. Adeep Bhanoji Row has told The Hindu . “We are making all efforts to restore the stature of the Temple of Modern Learning,” he adds. The aided college has proper playground and an indoor stadium. It has four NCC units, including an exclusive women NCC unit, and four units of NSS. In fact candidates who have performed well at the State and the national level in these fields will be given preference in admission, says Mr. Row.
To inculcate discipline among the faculty and students, the college has introduced biometric attendance system. For enhanced security there is a closed-circuit TV camera coverage of entry and exits, corridors and open areas in the college. The college also provides all the benefits in fee, scholarships as per the government norms. There are scholarships from corporates like HPCL for meritorious students, he explains.

The college administration conducted a discussion with stakeholders on ways to improve the quality of teaching and other related issues at the college on Saturday. Acharya Nagarjuna University former Vice-Chancellor V. Bala Mohan Das, Dr. Ambedkar University Registrar V. Krishna Mohan, professor in Commerce and Management in Andhra University N. Sambasiva Rao, Andhra University Centre for Women Studies director B. Ratna Kumari, AVN College Alumni Association president Makena Srinivas, and college vice-chairperson Indrani Jagga Row, among others attended.
