Owing to a large number of applications received for voter enrolment and the number of voters for a polling booth having been fixed by the Election Commission, a total of 113 auxiliary polling stations were needed in the district, District Election Officer and Collector S. Solomon Arokiaraj told representatives of political parties at a meeting here.
The number of voters fixed for a polling station in urban area was 1,400 and in rural area it was 1,200. However, as a number of applications (90,000) were received for registration as voters, in some polling stations that number of voters would go up to 1,600 and 1,300 in the respective areas.
The Election Commission wanted auxiliary polling stations located at other building in the same premises and their location would be discussed with political parties and the details would be forwarded to the EC for seeking permission. After the permission was granted the booth-level officer would inform voters of the area about the auxiliary booth, he explained.

Mr. Arokia Raj informed the representatives of political parties that a single window system was opened at the Collectorate to avoid inconvenience and wastage of time in getting permission for their propaganda. Efforts would be made to distribute voter slips before May 2.
