AU to host global meet on disaster management

Andhra University will be hosting a three-day international conference on ‘Remote sensing for disaster management’ (ICRSDM-2017) from October 11.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao said the conference will be attended by delegates from various countries such as Indonesia, China, Korea, Malaysia and Ethiopia.

The conference is being organised by the Department of Geo-Engineering, College of Engineering.

In this conference, 16 sub-themes on disaster management is included in which, floods and cyclones, landslides, earthquakes, drought and sustainable agriculture, coastal erosion and ecological restoration, forest fires, industrial disasters and safety measures, geo-informatics for rural development and capacity building, resilience of urban and civil construction disasters, Medical urgency and Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (drones) and its role in disaster management, etc. will be discussed in different sessions, said Prof. Nageswara Rao .

YVN Krishna Murthy from NRSC (ISRO), Chandan Ghosh, NIDM, G. Dileep Kumar from IOWA State University, USA, MV Seshagiri Babu, Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority will address the gathering in the inaugural session.

Convener of the Conference Prof. P. Jagadeeswara Rao, and AUCE (A) Principal, Prof. P.S. Avadhani were present.
