AU teachers begin relay fast

A six-day relay hunger strike by the Andhra University faculty members commenced here on Monday.

Demands

The protest is part of the AU Teachers Association's agitation demanding the government to enhance the age of retirement on superannuation to 65 years from the present 60 years and pay the pay revision arrears.

Six members of the executive committee of the asociation participated in the relay fast on the first day.

Former Vice-Chancellor of AP University of Law Y. Satyanarayana inaugurated the camp.

Former Vice-Chancellors V. Balamohan Das, R. Madhavi and Nirupa Rani visited the camp.

President of AU Teachers Association's M. Purnachandra Rao, secretary K. John, former presidents Sambi Reddy and Narasimha Rao were among those who spoke.
