AU students get pat for creative talent

Showcasing their skills, the students bring laurels to the their college. She designed structures using innovative methods that can take the shock of earthquakes in seismic zones.

For a change, Andhra University College of Engineering has felicitated its students, who apart from doing well in academics have done something creative. The felicitation function was held at Dr. Y.V.S. Murthy auditorium on Wednesday.

Competing at national and international forums, the students not only showcased their creative best, but also brought laurels to the college.

G. Hemanth, a second-year student from geo-engineering, bagged third prize at NASA in the space settlement contest in the B. Tech grade. Over 67 students from across the globe participated in the contest. He created artificial settlements in the Lagrangian points in space. His project not only showcased how to create day and nights, but also covered various aspects such as agriculture, entertainment and industry. “The project also exhibited harnessing of solar energy into dry battery cells and detecting and destroying of asteroids with the help of atomic laser beams,” said Hemanth.

Andhavarapu Sravani, who just completed her B. Arch. was felicitated for getting the first prize in the earthquake resistance design contest at IIT Kanpur. “Over hundred students from various architecture colleges participated in the contest,” she said.

She designed structures using innovative methods that can take the shock of earthquakes in seismic zones.

Rajiv Tagore, a fresh civil engineering pass-out, was felicitated for receiving the Indira Gandhi National Award from President Pranab Mukherjee for being the best NSS volunteer in the country.

Social service

In his five-year NSS service, he organised over 12 blood donation camps to garner over 5,000 units of blood and adopted Simbhuvanipalem village.

T.V.R.L. Sravya was felicitated for achieving the highest CGPA of 9.53 in engineering study. She was selected for two-month internship at the prestigious Helmholtz Institutes in Germany under DAAD academic exchange programme and will now be pursuing Ph.D. at National University of Singapore.

The students were felicitated by Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju in the presence of AU Engineering College (Autonomous) principal P.S. Avadhani, President of Salem International University Madan Nelant and inspector of Cyber Crime K. Satyanarayana Rao.
