Students debate various issues at mock session. Topics such as unemployment, inflation, education and agricultural budget were covered during Zero Hour.

Debate over the pending proposal of metro rail project, 49 per cent hike in foreign direct investment cap in the insurance sector and job opportunities for sportspersons under sports quota continued for a couple of hours between members of the ruling and opposition parties.

At the mock Parliament session conducted by the Department of Arts of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College, students of both science and arts streams donned the role of young Parliamentarians and got into a heated argument over several unsettling political issues and economic slowdown.

A total of 70 students were divided into four parties such as ruling, opposition, communist and liberal and lived up to their roles during the entire session. While P. Stephen Anurag played the role of Prime Minister, M. Rohi Joseph acted as Deputy Speaker.

Participants said that the session has thrown open new avenues for them in the political arena. “It helps us understand the essence of good governance and understand parliamentary procedures in a much broader sense,” said Pragati Murthy, who enacted as Assembly Speaker.

Topics such as unemployment, inflation, education and agricultural budget were covered during Zero Hour. While the members of ruling party emphasised on Andhra capital plan: three mega cities and 14 smart cities and growth in IT sector, the opposition party pointed out that the IT sector was hardly seeing any signs of development as compared to Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. College secretary and correspondent G. Madhu Kumar, Academic and Central Administration director K. Bhaskara Reddy and principal Y. Poli Reddy attended the session.
