VUDA sends proposal outlining the modalities to government; officials scouting for big layout

After a long gap, VUDA is likely to go in for allotment of plots by draw of lots.

In a major policy decision, VUDA recently decided not to take up high-end housing and the VUDA Board approved it. Earlier, the VUDA Board decided that auctioning of plots must be taken up in old layouts where allotment was by auction in the past.

With several of the recent allotments made by auction, there was little scope for taking up allotments by draw of lots. The board meeting in December resolved that in the fresh layouts to be developed by VUDA, allotment should be taken up by the draw of lots.

Consequently, VUDA Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj recently put up a proposal before the Minister for Municipal Administration M. Mahidhar Reddy to take up allotment of plots by the draw of lots, it was learnt.

After discussions, the Minister wanted the proposal to be sent to the government.

The Minister suggested that the allotment be taken up in a single layout on a trial basis.

VUDA has already sent a proposal to the government outlining the modalities, it is learnt.

Besides, data is being collected to buttress the argument that VUDA will not incur loss owing to allotment by lots. However, with elections round the corner, it is imperative the government issues a G.O. paving the way for VUDA to initiate the process for allotment by draw of lots. It is reliably learnt that VUDA is zeroing in on a sufficiently big layout to take up allotment in a transparent manner so that it benefits a large number of people looking for a house-site. It will also help VUDA redeem its reputation that has taken a beating for going in for auction for a long time now, leading to charges of real estate price spiral.
