Steel Secretary visits blast furnace -3 and other units

Union Steel Secretary G. Mohan Kumar on Sunday urged the management of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited to stick to expansion deadlines and improve the techno-economic parameters.

After visiting newly commissioned blast furnace-3 and other units at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, he said furnace production would be optimised and stabilised after sometime.

Mr. Mohan Kumar during an interaction with senior officials and a PowerPoint presentation said improvement in techno-economic parameters and achieving more international benchmarks were crucial for RINL as VSP was on massive expansion mode.

He observed that “RINL has much more value in future” and said that the modernisation drive initiated by the organisation had to be completed in time as a goal-oriented programme to demonstrate the capability of the company in the competitive market. He exhorted that the RINL Collective should strive for achieving more international benchmarks in increasing productivity and enhancing its brand name.

In his welcome address, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director A.P. Choudhary explained the achievements and future plans of the organisation and sought the guidance and support of the Steel Secretary for further improving the performance.

He said that RINL was a pioneer in adoption of green technologies and consistently running the plant more than 100 per cent capacity utilisation for the past 12 years.

On human resource management front, Mr. Choudhary said through redeploying and retraining, RINL was able to meet its expansion needs with minimum manpower addition.

RINL Directors Umesh Chandra (Operations), P. Madhusudan (Finance), T.K. Chand (Commercial), Y.R. Reddy (Personnel), P.K. Mohapatra (Projects), Chief Vigilance Officer B. Siddhartha Kumar, CISF Commandant Rohitashwa Kumar and others attended.

The Steel Secretary also interacted with the representatives of Steel Executive Association (SEA), unions, SC and ST association and advised them to put all-out efforts to enhance the production levels and to achieve international benchmarks.
