People's organisations expressed solidarity with the people of Sundarayyapeta gram panchayat agitating against Anakapalle Municipality’s plan to dump garbage at Achayyapeta village, by joining in a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday. The municipality dumped garbage at the village on March 22 before an interim stay granted by the High Court stopped it from proceeding further. Allotment of land to the municipality violated many Acts and High Court judgments, said the villagers.

Meanwhile, the High Court adjourned the case to June 3, said general secretary of AP Vyavasaya Vrittidarula Union P.S. Ajay Kumar.

The villagers conducted relay hunger strike near China Sampathipuram from April 5 till Monday and came to Visakhapatnam to highlight their demand. Among those who supported the villagers were V.S. Krishna (HRF), T. Sreeramamurthy (APCLC), P.V. Ramana (Anti-Privatisation Committee) and J.V. Ratnam (Movement for People Centred Development), Teddu Sankar (Fishermen Youth Associaton), Mallanna (IFTU). Rekha Ramana Murthy, K.A. Naidu, Yerramsetti Nageswara Rao, T. Appa Rao and others participated.
