Who can forget the typical dancing pose of the pop diva with curled hair tied casually in a band and a hat adorned in style? Michael Jackson, the multifaceted star who composed magnificent albums such as Immortal, Bad, Dangerous, and Thriller, still commands a lot of following. To mark his birth anniversary, which falls on Wednesday, a group of 11 students from the Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University, carved a sand sculpture of the pop sensation on the Beach Road opposite the Victory at Sea.

“It has taken almost 10 hours to complete the task,” said Bobbadi Yernindra Rao, a final year student of fine arts.

“It is not an easy job to mould sand, as it requires the right portion of water. With the weather being hot, the water content is absorbed faster. We need to complete the task before it gets dried up,” he said. The other team members included G. Chitti Babu, Ch. Vijay, Ch. Dasu, I. Ravi, M.V.R. Murthy, S. Yellayya, M. Janaki Jayaram, Santosh Behra, Bhanu Prasad, and Devendra Rao.
